The Auburn State Recreation Area contains 35,000 acres of open space along 40 miles of the North and Middle Forks of the American River. Situated south of Interstate 80 from Auburn to Colfax, the park contains many miles of trails for hikers, runners, bikers and equestrians, including landmarks such as the Western States Trail and Mountain Quarries Bridge. Many of the following trails can be linked together for longer runs or hikes. For instance, the Lakeview Connector Trail leads into the Foresthill Divide Loop Trail. For a complete map of all the trails listed below plus numerous other trails that link them together, stop by our shop to view the map (also available for purchase).
•American Canyon Trail - 2.4 miles one-way to river, easy down, moderate/difficult up
•Codfish Falls Trail - 1.7 miles, easy but with narrow drop-offs to river
•Foresthill Divide Loop Trail - 10ish miles, easy to moderate (add 1 mile from west trailhead)
•Lake Clementine Trail - 1.9 miles one-way, easy except for narrow washed-out sections
•Olmstead Loop Trail - 8.6 miles, easy to moderate
•Quarry Road Trail - 5.6 miles one-way, easy (excellent beginner trail run)
•Robie Pt. Fire Break Trail - 3.6 miles, easy to moderate
•Stevens Trail - 3.2 miles one-way to river, easy down, moderate up
•Stagecoach Trail - 2 miles one-way, moderate up, easy down
